I just realized my boyfriend is "following me"

I shouldn't of made that the title, but isn't it funny?
I thought I'd share a new upcoming idea for a photoshoot I have, first ever really.
I should title it as some sort of series but I'd like not to lose my train of thought here.

Ok, so it's basically gonna capture the future me.
I'll set up looks for myself and backgrounds showcasing
who I believe I want to be within the next few years.
I felt actually seeing it meant I could be it
if that isn't too bland a statement I apologize.

Seeing is believing I suppose.
Maybe there'll be present and then future photographs. hmmmmm
To be continued..if i ever catch up with my work.

I didn't even register for next semester yet. YIKES.

The Nick Vedros Experience

I didn't know what I was in for sitting at a presentation that would last for two hours, but I knew I'd walk away with something none the less, so excited I was. Vedros strives with his humor before he even showed any of his work. Confidence shined through with just that, I was already learning it's okay to joke. You should hope to let clients know you on deeper levels than just as a photographer.

He started off with his earlier work which was very refreshing. It featured old techniques that were being forgotten like soft focus which I might delve into. Even from the start he didn't just capture a normal scene everything was posed. One bar scene everyone was posed he didn't find everyone there. He thought it might be too busy otherwise.

Later on I realized he'd pose all of his shots, even with more advancements in photography like Photo Shop. I saw finally how a shot could take a week or more. He would build sets which I think is a great flexibility to have and skill if i might say. I am only at a point where I can dream up possible props and scenes for a subject. But building a set for it from the ground up? That takes a lot of creativity and willpower. Just for that one shot.

Towards the end, people would later feel he photo Shopped his images to a point where it wasn't the image anymore, possibly unrealistic. But i respect Vedros again for using his "Digital Darkroom" to it's almost fullest potential. All of his work is very pleasing to the eye.

The Studio Experience

My first reaction upon entering this studio was suprised. I saw artwork everywhere, lights, backgrounds and computers. It didn't just consist of one room like I considered most studios to be. But there were three separated areas and one room which consisted of a small office area it seemed. Even some good oldies music playing, very respectable.

The first room had lights set up on shelves, long rolls hanging on the walls which seemed would be used for background drops. We had to stand up for the whole hour we were there but other than that in this room is where he spoke about what having a business was like. It was interesting to hear prices he gave and his theory on good, fast, and cheap. The customer could have any two out of the three and it works. That will stick with me as well as to know when to say no.

The second room further in was a kitchen ripped out of home depot. It was very nice and they’re were some other displays of work from him, his latest of course. It was very nice to see you can relax where you work. Also to be used as a set I later learned.

The last room is where I learned he opened up his business with his wife which was endearing and his dog popped up. The studio really did have a homey feeling, as it being their third studio built from the ground up should have. They had a computer area here and phone calls would be answered here. Along the walls a row of their latest and published works. Portraits or popular figures and commercial work.

All in all I learned about what future I could be facing if I wanted to work for me, it seems tough sure, but very rewarding. I respect what he does, but maybe it’s not for me. I feel it might affect my personal life if calls were directed to my phone, I want a stable time to work around. Maybe working for a magazine might fit me better. My business can’t depend on every phone call. I don’t think I can live on edge like that.

First Blog

Hey I'm Allison.
aha..I thought I'd start out by just sharing something about myself.
As photographers we do pick up on details in things, others might not.
For this reason I love animated movies. Why?
Well, how close can they get to replicating the real thing?
I'm very critical.
There's Monster's Inc, big monsters and a kid,
okay very colorful and fun animation-wise.
The Incredibles, humans again,
but they have to create the super powers they have, getting better.
Ratatouille, a movie about a mouse chef.
?!!?!? Think about it.
This means details in the food and the mouse's point of view have to be on point.
Watch. and you tell me.
The shadows, the point of interest through a rat's eyes just keeps me locked in.
There's scenes where it rains. Something they didn't have to do.
It must've made everything so much more complicated to animate, but they did it.
The up close detail in the food. I can't. I can watch this movie over and over.
